Connect your AI app

Connect your own AI app, such as Claude or Claude Code, to Slatfinity and it can design slatwall parts with you. Your AI app writes the design, checks it on every wall, looks at pictures of it and tells you what to print first. Everything it makes starts as a private draft in your account.

Before you start

  • Reading needs no account. Without signing in, your AI app can read the design rules, the walls and the published designs.
  • Drafting needs your Slatfinity account. You sign in with an email link, Google or GitHub. Your AI app asks you to sign in the first time it needs to.
  • Your AI app must support remote MCP servers. Claude on the web, Claude Desktop and Claude Code do.

Connect

Your AI app connects to this address:

Claude on the web and Claude Desktop

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Choose + Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name it Slatfinity, paste the MCP URL and choose Continue. Keep the suggested sign-in settings and choose Add. If you see one screen with Advanced settings instead, leave them empty and choose Add.
  4. When Slatfinity opens (now, or the first time your AI needs your account), sign in and choose Allow.
  5. In a chat, choose +, then Connectors, and turn Slatfinity on. Then ask for a part, for example “Make a hook for my leaf blower.”

On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds the connector first, under Organization settings, then Connectors. You then choose Connect next to it in Customize, then Connectors. A free plan can add one custom connector.

Claude Code

  1. Run claude mcp add --transport http slatfinity https://slatfinity.com/mcp. To use it in every project, run claude mcp add --transport http --scope user slatfinity https://slatfinity.com/mcp instead.
  2. Start Claude Code, run /mcp, choose slatfinity, then Authenticate, and sign in to Slatfinity in the browser window that opens.
  3. Or sign in from your terminal without starting Claude Code: claude mcp login slatfinity.

Other AI apps

Any AI app that connects to remote MCP servers over HTTP can use the same address, if it signs you in through a web page or through your computer's localhost.

The designer skill

The slatfinity-designer skill teaches your AI app how to design for Slatfinity. A connected AI app reads it from Slatfinity, so you don't have to install it. To keep a copy anyway, read the skill or download it as a zip.

What Slatfinity asks when you connect

When your AI app connects, Slatfinity asks you to sign in, then opens a page that asks “Let the AI app at claude.ai use your Slatfinity account?” (or “on this computer”, or wherever the app is). It shows the name the app gave itself. Slatfinity doesn't check that name, so allow the app only if you just asked your AI app to connect.

If you choose Allow, the app can:

  • design parts with you: start drafts, check them against the design rules and look at pictures of them;
  • see your drafts;
  • read and answer the comments you leave on your designs;
  • send a design to Slatfinity: it's told to ask you first, and you can withdraw it while it waits (see “Publishing”);
  • ask Slatfinity for a new kind of part or a new core piece;
  • download files for you, if you leave “Download files for you” ticked: print files for your designs and for parts in the catalog. Each download counts, as on the site;
  • stay connected, so you don't sign in every time: until you disconnect it, or until it goes 30 days unused.

An AI app you connected before downloads existed keeps everything else. When it tries to download, it tells you to reconnect it and allow downloads; that costs nothing. Connecting an app again keeps what you allowed: to stop one downloading, disconnect it on your account page, then connect it again and untick “Download files for you”.

The app sees your handle, the @name on your account page, but never your email address or your password. It can't change your account settings, email address or sign-in. Choose Cancel to refuse. Either way, you go back to your AI app.

What your AI app can do

These work before you sign in. They change nothing and cost nothing.
ToolWhat it does
get_rulesThe design format, the core pieces, the design rules and a style guide
get_referenceWhat Slatfinity knows, by topic (see “What your AI app can look up”)
list_bricksEvery core piece a design is built from
get_brickOne core piece, with an example design
list_wallsThe slatwall brands Slatfinity knows
get_wallOne wall, with where each of its measurements came from
search_designsPublished designs by words, family and type. Signed in, your own drafts too
get_designOne design's file. Signed in, your own drafts too

Without signing in, your AI app can make 120 requests an hour from your address and 1,200 an hour from your network. Past that, it's asked to wait, and told until when.

These need your account.
ToolWhat it does
create_draftStarts a private draft, or a remix of a published design, and checks it quickly
update_draftChanges a draft, saves the next revision and checks it quickly
validate_draftChecks a draft against every design rule. The full check builds it on every wall it claims
inspect_draftPictures and measurements: the part on the wall, its size, weight in grams and what it holds
get_draft_historyA draft's saved revisions, newest first, with what changed in each
export_draftDownloads your own design as its page does: a Ready one for every wall it passes on, or a draft for your wall once it passes the quick check there. Needs your permission to download
export_partDownloads a part from the catalog at one of its sizes, on your wall, and adds it to your Downloads. Needs your permission to download
slice_draftSlices a draft in PrusaSlicer and gives its print time and grams
submit_for_publishSends your own Ready design to Slatfinity, asking for it in the catalog. Your AI app is told to ask you first
list_publish_requestsFor Slatfinity's own accounts: what people sent to Slatfinity. Needs permission to publish
publish_designFor Slatfinity's own accounts: publishes what someone sent, or their own design, through every check. Needs permission to publish
decline_requestFor Slatfinity's own accounts: declines what someone sent, with a reason they see. Needs permission to publish
get_feedbackReads the comments you leave on your design's Live view, so your AI can work through them
answer_feedbackAnswers one of your comments without a change: why not, or a question back
report_printTells Slatfinity how a print of something you downloaded went, when you say so, with a photo if you give it one
request_vocabularyAsks Slatfinity for a kind of part the catalog doesn't have yet
request_brickAsks Slatfinity for a core piece that doesn't exist yet

Requests for a new kind of part or a new core piece don't change anything straight away. Slatfinity reads every request once a month, and nothing waits on yours: your AI app carries on with the closest kind or piece that exists. Requests are private to Slatfinity.

How designs work

A Slatfinity design is a description of a part, not a 3D file. It is built from core pieces, called bricks: the parts that grip the wall, hooks, shelves, labels. Slatfinity builds the 3D file from the design for your wall and your printer, so one design fits every slatwall it claims.

  1. Your AI app reads the design rules and picks the kind of part to make.
  2. It starts a draft. A quick check builds it on one wall.
  3. It reads what the check found, changes the draft and checks it again.
  4. When the shape changes, it looks at pictures of it.
  5. When the quick checks pass, it runs the full check, which builds it on every wall it claims.
  6. If the full check passes, the design is Ready. To ask for it in the catalog, you send it to Slatfinity (see “Publishing”).

Looking for something to make? Catalog progress shows which kinds of part still need a design.

Limits

Your account has an hourly allowance, counted in clock hours (UTC). A new account gets:

Each hour
Pictures60
Checks300
Slices10

Accounts Slatfinity trusts get more each hour: 2 times as much at level 1 and 5 times as much at level 2. You can't earn a higher level yet. Requests for a new kind of part or core piece are limited to 20 a day at every level.

Starting or changing a draft, and a quick check, each count as 1 check; a full check counts as 5. Looking at a draft counts 1 check when it has to build, plus 1 picture for each picture not taken before. Slicing counts 1 slice the first time Slatfinity slices that design. Reading costs nothing.

These are free: a picture already taken; a check of a draft that hasn't changed; joining a check or slice that is already running; and, for accounts that publish, the slice a passing full check asks for. When you reach a limit, your AI app is told when to try again. Slatfinity gives back the cost of work that never started.

Publishing

Slatfinity's admins decide what goes into the catalog.

  • A passing full check makes the design Ready: it stays private in your account, and downloads from its page in My designs.
  • To ask for it in the catalog, use Submit to the catalog on its page or its card in My designs, with a note if you like (it comes once you've downloaded the design: print it first), or ask your AI app to submit it. Your AI app is told never to submit a design unless you ask. You can withdraw it while it waits.
  • An admin publishes it under your handle, marked “Not test-printed yet”, once it passes every check again and slices cleanly in PrusaSlicer; or declines it with a reason its page shows. A declined design stays Ready: change it and submit it again.
  • Slatfinity's own accounts publish their own designs too, and answer what people send, through the site or through an AI app they allow to publish.
  • A design that fails a later check is hidden until it passes again. When a core piece, a wall's measurements or the checks change, Slatfinity checks every published design again by itself.

Your designs

What your AI app makes stays private in your account. Open My designs to see where each design stands, try it on your wall at every size, see how it fits every wall, and copy a prompt that continues one with your AI app. Slatfinity keeps the last 50 saved revisions of each draft.

See and disconnect your AI apps

Open your account page and look under AI apps. Each connected app shows the name it gave itself, where it connects from, when you connected it and what it may do. Choose Disconnect next to the app, then confirm.

Disconnecting stops the app at once: Slatfinity deletes your permission and every sign-in the app holds. To use it again, connect it again.

When something goes wrong

  • “This AI app was disconnected from Slatfinity.” You disconnected it on your account page. Connect it again.
  • “This link has expired or can't be used” on the page that asks you to allow your AI app. Go back to your AI app and connect again.
  • Your AI app can't connect at all. Remove Slatfinity from your AI app, then add it again with the steps above.
  • “You've reached … this hour.” Wait for the time it gives. Allowances start again on the hour, UTC.
  • “You already have a full check running; wait for it to finish.” Your account has as many checks (or slices, pictures or exports) waiting or running as it may at once. Wait for one to finish, then ask again. Nothing was charged.
  • “Too many requests from your account this hour.” Your AI app has sent more than 2,000 requests this hour. Wait for the time it gives.
  • “This design keeps taking too long to check; try again later or simplify it.” Checks of this design took too long twice within an hour, so it rests for 30 minutes. Nothing was charged. Simplify it, or try again later.
  • The full check is still running. Ask your AI app to check again: it joins the same check, at no cost.
  • A picture is missing. Slatfinity couldn't draw it. Your AI app still gets the measurements. Ask again in a minute.
